Founders Greg & Joanne Starkman have shared a life time together as beauty & wellness professionals creatively and as industry leaders.

Having met and married as beauty and wellness professionals, we reflected on our past experiences. I realized that during my tenure I witnessed a lack of integrity and passion in the corporate world and the impact it was having in our industry. Having had similar encounters, Joanne understood and together we created a professional line of products and concepts to enhance our beloved beauty and wellness industry. Innersense is our gift to beauty and wellness professionals seeking more out of life and a gift to their cherished guests seeking organic products.

Gregory

I grew up around the beauty business watching my mother and uncle, who were both beauty professionals. I guess I was destined for the business from a young age. As teenager I filled and labeled containers for my mother’s cosmetic line of which she sold at her Beverly Hills salon. Following in my families footsteps, I received my cosmetology license in 1978 and began my career in Los Angeles. Although I had a deep passion for the salon environment and the art of doing hair, I also possessed a desire to learn more about the different facets of the beauty industry.

That opportunity came in 1985, I was offered a sales position with a hair care distributor in Southern California. I rapidly discovered that I loved selling and educating stylist to new products. I quickly advanced up the corporate ladder. Over the next 22 years I enjoyed working as a senior executive for several top professional hair care companies. I have had the privilege of developing and launching a number of successful brands while leading and inspiring teams of very talented individuals in sales, marketing and education. Working with all of them has truly touched me.

Joanne

As the daughter of teachers, I came naturally to education. However, while at college, I spent more time cutting and styling hair than studying. I decided to follow my newfound passion, exited college and enrolled in beauty school. There, I discovered my true love…helping others to discover their beauty.

While working at various salons, I discovered that stylists needed and wanted more advanced training than they were receiving. This led me to the world of education after all. I loved teaching so much that I made it my full-time job and began teaching advanced cutting techniques all over North America for a hair care manufacturer. My journey married my love of hairdressing with my passion for teaching.

The INNERSENSE Name

The name Innersense came from a wise psychologist who was counseling Joanne and I. As parents of a special needs child, we were worried that we wouldn’t always know what to do. So she told us, “just trust your inner sense.” And we did.
